Constellation Cup tickets on sale!
September 4, 2015
Netball’s greatest rivalry – Silver Ferns v Australia – will return to New Zealand shores in October, just two months after they battled for gold at Netball World Cup SYDNEY 2015.
Tickets to the New World Netball Series for the Constellation Cup in Christchurch and Auckland are on sale to the public from 9am today, Friday 4 September – GET TICKETS
In today’s Commentator’s Corner, Sky Sport NZ’s Jenny Woods looks at the upcoming Test Series between two of Netball’s powerhouses…
It’s the lull between the storms – September.
August was the Netball World Cup – October is the Constellation Cup.
Obviously very different competitions, but both of them critical for New Zealand Netball.
Its two weeks since the World Cup wrapped up in Sydney … a massive success for so many reasons.
But there were three issues from a New Zealand perspective … those three goals that stood between the Silver Ferns and the Diamonds when the final whistle blew.
But that was then, and now is now.
Next month brings four Tests against Australia in Christchurch, Auckland, Melbourne and Perth. The Diamonds will have all the swagger of newly-crowned World Champions, but the Silver Ferns will also have no shortage of self-belief.
Their win over Australia in World Cup pool play has drawn comparisons with the 2003 World Cup winning New Zealand side; a team without weakness in any position. What’s so encouraging is the style of Netball being played and the rise of young players in key positions.
Australia on the other hand, has lost its best player. The great Julie Corletto has retired after a gutsy and glittering career. Gone too is the other specialist goal defence in the Diamonds squad, Rebecca Bulley, and their gutsy vice-captain Kimberlee Green.
Is this a chink in the armadillo-like Australian armour? We’ll see.
This Constellation Cup contest should be a beauty. 2015 stands at 1-all between these two sides, but the momentum is with New Zealand.
