Cullen makes it back-to-back People’s Choice awards
December 8, 2016
Kayla Cullen once again took home the Woman’s Day People’s Choice Award at the NZ Netball Awards.
This is the second consecutive year Cullen has won the award at this prestigious ceremony, which was held at the Auckland War Memorial Museum last month.
The award is one of two presented on the night that is decided purely by a public vote. This year only 50 votes separated the top three, with Cullen sneaking home on the final day of voting.
“It’s indescribable,” Cullen said. “Just to win any kind of award is just so amazing, I’m so honoured.”
It’s been a rollercoaster year for Cullen, beginning and ending the season with an injury which forced her to miss the New World Netball Series for the Constellation Cup against the Australian Diamonds.
“I guess it’s been quite an odd season for me,” she said. “I’m just glad to finish it on a high with the girls winning the Fast5 [Netball Series] and playing so well against Aussie.”
Cullen also thanked her strong fan-base, whom without them, would have made winning this award impossible.
“And to all my fans, thank you so much, I love you!”
