FAST5 Ferns management team confirmed

New Zealand U21 coach Kiri Wills will lead the FAST5 Ferns as they aim to defend their title at the Fast5 World Netball Series in Melbourne, October 29-30.

Joining Wills will be New Zealand Secondary Schools team assistant coach, Mary-Jane Araroa, Mainland Tactix manager Leanne Harris and NZ U21 physiotherapist Jen Fergusson.

Netball New Zealand head of high performance Steve Lancaster says this is a valuable opportunity for Wills to coach in an international competition ahead of Netball World Youth Cup 2017.

“We view the Netball World Youth Cup next year as a priority and are always looking to provide opportunities for coaches and support staff within the NZ system to gain experience both domestically and internationally, so we see these appointments ticking a number of boxes,” Lancaster said.

“The Fast5 World Netball Series provides us with high level exposure to varied international teams and styles of play and I’m sure Kiri and Mary-Jane will relish the challenge.

“Fast5 is an exciting format of the game, one that New Zealand is proud to support. We look forward to naming a team later this year to defend the title.”

The FAST5 Ferns have been victorious on five of the six occasions the event has been held (2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014), with England the only other team to taste victory in 2011. The event was not held in 2015 due to the Netball World Cup.

The Fast5 Netball World Series will, for the first time, be played in Melbourne from October 29-30, 2016.
