Mes aiming to finish series on a high
October 27, 2015
Silver Ferns goal shooter Bailey Mes is hoping she and her team-mates can even the Test Series against the Australian Diamonds on Friday night in Perth.
The New World Netball Series for the Constellation Cup moves west for the final Test – a match that will also signal the end of coach Waimarama Taumaunu’s tenure.
Following her player of the match performance in Melbourne, Mes said it wasn’t a perfect performance, but was enough to get the win.
“I probably made it a little harder for myself, particularly in the first half,” Mes said.
“I was really proud that as a group we kept pushing on and we were able to claw the deficit back and get a win.”
Mes says there is a lot of belief in the team – and it showed on Sunday.
“Knowing we were even at three-quarter time it was really clear that we needed to keep letting the ball go and score off whatever ball we were getting - and we were getting some good ball,” she said.
“The belief is certainly there and we’ve been making some good adjustments throughout the Tests. It was awesome to bring it together [for the win].”
Friday’s Test Match will be Mes’ first in the black dress in Perth, but come November it’ll be a black dress of a different kind at the inaugural New Zealand Netball Awards.
Mes has already visited NZNetballAwards.co.nz to cast her vote for the SKY Sport Moment of the Year.
“My moment of the year was the Tactix victory, but I think Ellen’s three-pointer in FAST5 will be up there as well,” Mes said.
Fans have until November 1, 2015 to cast their vote for the SKY Sport Moment of the Year and the Woman’s Day People’s Choice for their favourite Silver Ferns player. Don’t miss your opportunity to vote!
