NNZ launches Netball World Cup online database

In a first for the sport, Netball New Zealand (NNZ) has been the driving force behind the launch of a ground-breaking online portal containing the 60-year history of the Netball World Cup.

In an extensive research project undertaken over the last 15 years, all Netball World Cup matches since the first tournament was held in 1963 (and four-yearly since), will now be publicly available in one online portal for the first time.

In a massive undertaking involving NNZ’s historians and the assistance of numerous others stationed around the world, who provided invaluable support to uncover much of the early information, particularly from the 1960s and 1970s, the collation of this valuable historical record is significant.

Searchable by country, the information provided includes head-to-head data of all previous World Cup matches.

“Netball NZ is proud to provide this world-first online and publicly available database that will support netball nations around the world to recognise and celebrate their history,” NNZ Chief Executive Jennie Wyllie said.

“As Netball NZ turns 100 in 2024, this project was part of the wider NNZ centenary celebrations, and is a legacy project to benefit world netball.”

This continues NNZ’s world leading Silver Ferns online data project – and is a timely opportunity to launch the new website on the eve of the 16th edition of the World Cup.
