Silver Ferns prepare for final Test
July 27, 2015
The Silver Ferns arrived in Auckland on Monday afternoon to prepare for their final hit out on home soil against South Africa’s SPAR Proteas as their road to the Netball World Cup SYDNEY 2015 draws ever closer.
Travelling north after Sunday night’s victory over the SPAR Proteas in the first Test Match of the New World Netball Series for the Taini Jamison Trophy, there was no rest for the team with a morning training session at St Paul’s Collegiate School in Hamilton.
Silver Ferns coach Waimarama Taumaunu was circumspect about the Silver Ferns performance, especially a second quarter lag in which the Proteas came back to within one goal after the Ferns led by seven at the first break.
“Probably we didn’t get enough ball as we’re used to but I thought they worked really hard to keep the ball away from them,” she said.
“We had quite a few individuals make quite a few uncharacteristic errors on a couple of our front line.”
Taumaunu admitted the Silver Ferns didn’t create enough turnover opportunities in that first half especially.
“I thought that they (South Africa) shot accurately, I thought we didn’t get enough ball off them and that’s what we talked about at the breaks. I thought it got better as the game wore on,” she concluded.
Fans can catch the Silver Ferns final Test of the New World Netball Series for the Taini Jamison Trophy live on SKY Sport 1 from 7.30pm (check local guides).
