Souness excited to wear Black Dress
August 21, 2017
The dream of wearing the coveted Black Dress started when Whitney Souness was a little girl.
Fast forward to 2017, and Souness is on the verge of her maiden appearance during the upcoming Netball Quad Series.
It has been a long road for Souness to the Silver Ferns Squad, and being named in the Quad Series team.
A ruptured ACL saw her miss the 2016 season, before she returned to the court with the Central Pulse fitter, faster and stronger in the new ANZ Premiership.
“I’ve never injured myself quite that bad before so it was definitely a setback,” Souness recalled.
“I wanted to make sure I rehabbed really well and came back stronger than I was before.
“I worked on little things I hadn’t worked on before; these things made me a better player and helped me become more patient.”

Souness knows the hard work doesn’t stop now and that she must continue to push to retain her spot in the squad and stake her claim on a bib.
“There’s always things I want to improve on in my game. I haven’t had a lot of time in centre, so getting some more experience there and picking up my defence are priorities, as well as keeping my speed and vision open and lowering my error rates,” she said.
“I wasn’t expecting it; I just wanted to get back to playing Netball again and that’s what I’ve focussed on.”
