The latest news & updates from the Silver Ferns

#ThanksWai

The Silver Ferns came within a whisker of bringing home the Constellation Cup and the all-conquering All Blacks created history at RWC2015.

But in the midst of all this, one person bows out of the spotlight – Silver Ferns coach Waimarama Taumaunu MBE.

Friday's victory over Australia in Perth was her final match in charge of the Silver Ferns.

Taumaunu finishes her coaching career third on the all-time list, having coached the Silver Ferns in 53 Tests, behind Ruth Aitken (112) and Dame Lois Muir (107).

Retiring Silver Ferns shooter Jodi Brown paid tribute to Taumaunu following the victory.

“We just really wanted to do this for Wai. She’s an amazing coach and some people don’t quite know the work, time and effort that she puts in,” Brown said. “We wanted to send her out with a bang and I think we did.”

SKY Sport NZ caught up with Wai and got her thoughts on her time at the helm.

“I have been involved with the Silver Ferns since I was 18, so it has been an enormous part of my life,” Taumaunu said.

“We often talk in the Silver Ferns about being part of a very special group; recognise the privilege and hope that in the time that you are there you pass it on in a better state.”
