Silver Ferns to name NWC team tomorrow
July 1, 2015
This time tomorrow Netball fans across the globe will know who will be representing the Silver Ferns at Netball World Cup SYDNEY 2015 (NWC2015).
The team of 12 will be announced at 12pm (NZT) on Thursday 2 July.
For the last three days, 30 hopefuls have been pushing themselves to the limits in fitness testing, skills and game play with the aim of being named in the final 12.
The competition is fierce with the battle for positions in all areas of the court making decisions difficult for Silver Ferns Coach Waimarama Taumaunu and her selectors.
“Decisions are fine lines really; they’re very equal in terms of performance so [this afternoon] it was giving people an opportunity, a final opportunity, to show what they can do,” Taumaunu said.
“Putting them under that sort of pressure and making them play against the people that they are clearly in opposition for, for positions in the team is about putting them under the sort of stress that a pinnacle event requires.”
Silver Ferns squad member Temalisi Fakahokotau has been the only player unable to participate in the trials due to a hand injury sustained in a kitchen blender accident, which required surgery. Although injured, she is still eligible for selection.
The NZA Team will also be announced at 12pm tomorrow.
