Deb Fuller

Assistant Coach

Following an extensive playing career, former Silver Fern Deb Fuller quickly moved into the coaching ranks, gaining experience at provincial and franchise level before being anointed Silver Ferns assistant coach in 2018.

That coincided with the appointment of her former team-mate Dame Noeline Taurua as the Silver Ferns head coach in 2018, the pair going on to plot a successful 2019 Netball World Cup-winning campaign.

Fuller announced her arrival by guiding the FAST5 Ferns to a seventh FAST5 Netball World Series title in 2018. Creative and crafty as a player, Fuller also introduced the same innovation as a coach.

Playing out of the star-studded PIC club in Wellington, Fuller, a rangy defender able to play all three back positions on the court, became Silver Fern # 109 in 1994. She retired from international play in 1996 but continued playing at provincial level for several years, including the inaugural National Bank Cup.

After retiring completely in 2002, Fuller had coaching stints in Wellington and the Bay of Plenty before accepting a position as a defensive coach with the ANZ Championship side the Northern Mystics for the 2009 season. She was promoted to assistant coach of the Auckland-based team the following year.

Fuller was appointed Mystics head coach in 2011, doing a three-year stint before taking a year off in 2014, and then returning for the 2015 and 2016 seasons ahead of the launch of the ANZ Premiership in 2017. During her time, she became the first coach to guide the Mystics to the ANZ Championship play-offs.
