Canterbury centre Christine Pietzner got her call-up to the Silver Ferns for the 1974 tour to England where they went unbeaten. She was re-selected for the 1975 Netball World Cup held in Auckland and again for the fifth staging of the event, in Trinidad & Tobago, in 1979 where the Silver Ferns secured a three-way share of the title with the hosts and Australia.

Short in stature, Pietzner was nippy on attack and a tenacious defender who set up plenty of turnover opportunities for the in-circle defenders.

Pietzner formed a slick midcourt attacking combination with her provincial team-mate Shirley Langrope as a fast, reliable and consistent performer at international level.
