Originally selected as a training partner for the Silver Ferns opening campaign of 2024, the Netball Nations Cup, in England, shooter Georgia Heffernan made an instant impression when making her international debut.
A Silver Ferns Development and NZ A Squad member, Heffernan has continued to make steady progress after gaining her first full contract at the elite level with the Steel in 2020. An adept long-range shooter, the rangy Heffernan is a fine all-round athlete with strong ball-handling and movement skills.
Heffernan completed 2022 on a high when winning the Aspiring Silver Ferns award. She was also a part of the history-making Mixed Invitational team in the Cadbury Netball Series during 2022. She was a bronze and silver medal winner with the FAST5 Ferns at the 2022 and 2023 FAST5 Netball World Series, respectively.
In a milestone moment, Heffernan teamed up with her identical twin sister, midcourter Kate when making her Silver Ferns debut. Heffernan has a strong sporting pedigree, also being a talented cricketer, who played for the Otago Sparks before making netball her priority. She is the daughter of former Silver Fern Annette Heffernan.
