Wellington’s Jean Mitchell was a member of the first-ever Silver Ferns team named in 1938.

The one-off Test played against Australia in Melbourne that year was particularly challenging for the Silver Ferns who not only had to contend with different rules but also grass courts and a different style of goal ring in their historic first outing on the international stage.
