Making her Silver Ferns debut in 2003, shooter Jodi Brown stood the test of time, defying the odds several times in continuing a remarkable international career which spanned 12 years.
Blessed with a smart Netball brain and unflappable temperament, Brown was the consummate team player. Equally adept at both shooting positions, Brown’s playmaking skills shone brightest from goal attack with her ability to read play ahead of time and innate creative sense.
Originally from Wanganui, the unassuming Brown plied her trade from various points in New Zealand which included stints in Wellington, Otago, Waikato, Auckland and Canterbury.
After stepping aside from international Netball in 2007 to start a family, the mother of two made a remarkable return five years later with instant success.
Instinctive court craft, ball skills, perception and ability to orchestrate attacking momentum were the key attributes in Brown’s impressive armoury.
Renowned for a consistently high work rate, Brown’s volume of shots and accuracy improved with time, her variety in style offering another option in the Silver Ferns mix.
Brown called time in 2015 on a remarkable 61-Test international career in dynamic fashion, 12 years after it had started. In one of her finest moments, Brown proved irresistible in helping the Silver Ferns level the Constellation Cup against Australia on Australian soil with a storming individual performance.
She played in three Netball World Cups and one Commonwealth Games. Her services to Netball were acknowledged with a NZ Order of Merit (NZOM) in the 2016 New Year’s Honours.
