Canterbury’s Maxine Blomquist joined her cousin Shirley Langrope in the Silver Ferns team for the 1974 tour to England.

An accomplished performer in all three defensive positions, Blomquist’s versatility to seamlessly cover any of the back three positions helped seal a stellar Silver Ferns career.

Agile and skilful, Blomquist enjoyed an impressive run for the Silver Ferns, cementing her spot in all six Silver Ferns teams named between 1974 and 1982.

Tall and lean with a huge arm span, Blomquist was an excellent defensive exponent, her long reach and height vital for picking off intercepts while also proving a disrupting influence on her attacking opponents.

Injuries saw her switch to the other end of the court and pull on the goal attack bib for the 1978 Test Matches against Trinidad & Tobago.

Blomquist played in two Netball World Cups, the Silver Ferns finishing third in 1975 (Auckland) and sharing the title with Trinidad and Australia in 1979 (Trinidad).

During the 1981-82 international seasons, Blomquist was part of a Silver Ferns team which played 17 Tests in a hectic schedule across New Zealand, Australia and England.
