Rhonda Wilcox

1982-1983, 1985

GK
Lofty King Country shooter Rhonda Wilcox added a new dimension to the Silver Ferns when selected in 1982.

The tallest shooter to play for the Silver Ferns until Danika Wipiiti (1.94m) debuted in 2002, Wilcox offered real presence under the hoop with her ability to dominate the aerial possession.

Paired with a mobile shooting partner, she proved the perfect foil in the circle. She was a great asset to Silver Ferns teams of the time where her height and different style offered variation and diversity to the shooting line-up.

With her positional awareness and ability to set up under the hoop, she often gained the most effective shooting space close to the post and was a reliable and accurate finisher.

In a busy 1982, she was part of the Silver Ferns team which hosted Australia and then toured England. The following year she played goal shoot for the Silver Ferns in the 1983 Netball World Cup final in Singapore which they lost to Australia.

In the best interests of the team while at the same time showing her versatility, Wilcox was switched to the opposite end of the court, playing goal keeper in a pivotal match against Jamaica at the 1985 World Games before the Silver Ferns went on to win the final against Australia.
