Born and bred in Palmerston North, outstanding defender Rona Woodgyer was another player to benefit from the regional selections of the time which gave players from the smaller regions an opportunity to compete at the highest level.
With the first Test in Dunedin consisting of predominantly South Island players, livewire in-circle defender Woodgyer made the cut for the second and third Tests held in New Plymouth and Auckland out of a strong provincial Manawatu team of the era.
A rangy defender, the athletic 1.83m tall Woodgyer played mainly from the goal keeper position, making her international Netball debut as a 25-year-old.
With the next Silver Ferns team not being selected for another 12 years, Woodgyer resumed her impressive indoor basketball career after the 1948 series.
