Considered to this day as one of New Zealand’s most accurate shooters ever, Canterbury goal shoot Sandra (Sandy) Richards was selected for the 1970-71 Silver Ferns team ahead of the third Netball World Cup in Jamaica.
Whether at Club, provincial or international level, Richards never wavered with her uncanny ability to convert a high volume of goals. Her reliability under the hoop was never questioned, Richards also having the ability to stand her ground in the circle and not get pushed off her spot.
Impressive elevation from a standing jump and able to shoot accurately from all points of the circle, Richards had all the hallmarks of an outstanding shooter but remained a largely under-rated player during her career.
