Immersed in a winning culture and surrounded by an array of talented team-mates at the Southern Sting in the former domestic league over a number of years had midcourter Wendy Frew well primed for her introduction into the Silver Ferns in 2008.
Coming out of the noted Netball nursery of Verdon College, in Invercargill, Frew was a well-performed exponent of the centre/wing defence roles, leaving her best impressions from the wing.
A tough and uncompromising player, Frew presented all the sporting hallmarks associated with a true southern girl. A tenacious, no-nonsense, no-frills approach were Frew’s trademark traits.
A diligent and hard-working athlete, the solidly reliable Frew provided the dogged determination required for the wing defence role, had an eye for the intercept and was a strong support player on attack.
